Elevate Her is a powerful collaboration between artist Tariqa Waters, the Seattle Storm, and Round21, turning every detail into a celebration of self-expression and ascension. From the hand-painted nails to the floral-twisted typography, these pieces don’t just represent the Storm—they uplift the spirit of every woman who moves with purpose. Because elevation isn’t just a goal—it’s a state of mind.

This first in a three part series seeks to celebrate our community’s love of sports and the rich history of women’s basketball through an artistic lens. Today, centered at the intersection of sports, fashion, and social advocacy, women’s basketball has journeyed to its rightful spot in the limelight. Both locally and nationally, the Seattle Storm organization, which itself exemplifies the power of dreaming big and going for it, has long championed the inspiration, power, and passion that are integral to this sport that we love.

The Artist: Tariqa Waters is an American contemporary artist and curator renowned for her vibrant, large-scale installations, paintings, fabrications, and self-portraiture. Working across diverse media—canvas, wood, plastic, ceramics, glass, and photography—her art has been exhibited at institutions like the Seattle Art Museum, Frye Art Museum, and Bellevue Arts Museum, and featured in Rolling Stone France and Madame Figaro. As founder and director of Martyr Sauce Pop Art Museum in Seattle’s Pioneer Square, she champions underrepresented artists, co-founded Re:Definition Gallery in 2015, and in 2022 launched “Thank you, MS PAM”, an educational TV series on Seattle Channel/PBS KCTS9
